Now with that said the people may not want to hear it, but the first three super bowls will always be under scrutiny for allegedly cheating, which in my opinion disqualifies him automatically as number one all the time. Let’s also not forget, the rules were changed to protect people like Tom Brady not just quarterbacks but flagship quarterbacks they can make money with. You can’t even touch the quarterback now, God forbid you breathe on them It’s a flag. Brady’s accomplishments may be unmatched, but it’s only unmatched until it’s beaten by somebody else who comes along as a once in a lifetime type of talent, who’s even shinier than Tom Brady. Therefore, the goal post gets pushed further back for a subjective false justification in favor of their own quarterback. Although Montana’s career stats aren’t as impressive as they once were, four Super Bowl wins and 0 losses, three Super Bowl MVP awards, and two NFL MVP awards speak for themselves. And if we’re being honest with each other, Montana should have gotten his fourth super bowl MVP. In three of those super bowl wins Montana defeated three straight reigning and defending NFL MVP’s, Ken Anderson (Cin), Dan Marino (Mia), and Boomer Esiason (Cin), while in 1990 Montana defended his own MVP in the super bowl that year against John Elway and the Denver Broncos winning his fourth and final ring and 3rd super bowl MVP. If we’re being honest, Montana should have won his fourth super bowl MVP not his third. Montana possesses the highest super bowl passer rating ever with 127.8 versus Brady’s 97.7. His six 300-yard passing performances in the post-season are an NFL record. Montana along with Terry Bradshaw are the only two players in the NFL history for most wins In a super bowl without a loss according to Sportskeeda. My list of the greatest quarterbacks of all time goes in this specific order; Joe Montana, Tom Brady, John Elway, Brett Favre, Dan Marino. Quartebacks on The Rise When I say quarterbacks on the rise, I mean quarterbacks who have already established themselves as a great leader and winner who still have a higher trajectory for their careers because of the work they’re doing now. This does not include a quarterback like Aaron Rodgers who in my opinion has become a huge flop who possesses decent talent. I hear all the time that Aaron Rodgers is the greatest passer of all time, Bologna! Dan Marino is the greatest pure passer in the history of professional football, Don’t believe me? Do your homework kiddos. Patrick Mahomes is 100% one of those quarterbacks who has just slaughtered the competition with the exception of Tom Brady. He has repeatedly transformed his game and elevated it to a degree to make him and his team champions over and over. Trevor Lawrence is another one of those quarterbacks after last season who got in his own way but at the end of it showed what he was truly made of as they made a great push in the playoffs with he and Doug Peterson leading that team. Those two men can elevate each other to a level that no other quarterback duo can do with the exception of Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. Joe Burrow possesses every tool you need as a quarterback and much more, he’s that damn great. Joe borrow isn’t the problem though, it’s his organization and his teammates who will get in his way of becoming successful to a level he aims for. Deshaun Watson Was and Is that dude! Whatever happened off the field is none of my business, but because of what happened off the field got in the way of him progressing his abilities on the field. There is no doubt he has all the talent in the world to defeat any quarterback he wants to. This man is a winner, he will win!

With it’s conclusion we were also introduced to a bunch of modernized rules that should be adapted by the NFL this upcoming season. To the leagues players, personnel and fans we made history. Congratulations to the XFL players for playing their hardest and chasing their dreams with the opportunity provided to them by the XFL. I’m not sure what today holds for the players heading back to regular life for those who didn’t make the playoffs, but I wish them the best of luck and hopefully, we’ll see them in the NFL this upcoming season or perhaps we may see them next year in the XFL 2024. There are people in this league that stood out above and beyond their contemporaries by either a small margin or by a wide gap that has cemented their spot in history with the following awards. It was obvious considering early on into this process of new ownership that Redbird capital had promised undisclosed backing for the league along with a 5-year exclusive rights deal to Disney and it’s subsidiaries who would display the games. But it’s big news nonetheless as we have reiteration of confirmation that the XFL is here to stay for the long haul. The XFL has certainly done it’s job to make the game attractive and they’ve scored very well in regards to certain things they’ve done with the league and scored disastrously on others. This is the XFL… Coaching The XFL has four veteran head coaches in Reggie Barlow who coaches the DC Defenders, Jim Haslet who coaches the Seattle Sea Dragons, Bob Stoops who coaches the Arlington renegades, and Wade Phillips who coaches the Houston Roughnecks. These 4 head coaches combine for a whopping 109+ years of coaching experience. On the flip side, The XFL seemed like it was aiming towards hiring a group of men who were younger and hungrier. Unlike some of the veteran head coaches, I believe the rookie coaches have an advantage on a different level because they actually played the game more recently, but that means nothing if it doesn’t transfer over though. The first time head coaches are Hines Ward who coaches a San Antonio Brahmas, Anthony Becht who coaches for the St. Louis BattleHawks, Las Vegas Vipers who is headed by rod Woodson and last but not least Terrell Buckley who is coaching the Orlando Guardians. I think the coaches have done pretty well with the exception of some, as quite a few of their draft choices haven’t seemed to be a good fit for their team. It wasn’t just with rookie coaches it’s been with the veteran head coaches as well. This makes me wonder if the draft is really that difficult, and if it is it’s much more important than I’ve ever believed. Are these just growing pains for these young coaches specifically Terrell Buckley, Rod Woodson and Hines Ward? Will they be better next year at it? Will they even return next year? Grade : 7.8 [spreaker type=player resource=”episode_id=53500590″ width=”100%” height=”200px” theme=”light” playlist=”false” playlist-continuous=”false” chapters-image=”true” episode-image-position=”left” hide-logo=”false” hide-likes=”false” hide-comments=”false” hide-sharing=”false” hide-download=”false”] Rules and Officiating No I’m not going to break down every single thing the league has implemented into the game to try to improve it as it may take me forever to break that down but simply point out the things I like or dislike that they’ve done. Whether you’re the casual viewer who happens to tune in or the football loyalist who watches every single game of this league there’s no doubt the officiating and the XFL rules are above and beyond what the NFL has in my opinion. Officiating I’ve heard some people complaining and say that the XFL is too gimmicky but forget that they’re still watching grown men play a kid’s sport in college, NFL or anywhere else, it’s a game and it’s going to be gimmicky in and of itself. But one thing I can happily say is that the XFL specifically has not been over the top in what they’ve done. Like him or not Dean Blandino has been refreshing and consistent throughout this whole XFL season, the transparency he and the League have shown has been extremely important and informative to how referees and officiating crews make their conclusions that can alter a game. Game Play Adjustment The kickoffs I love because it protects the players as most injuries in the NFL happen on kickoffs alone. The extra point system in the league may be my favorite thing of all. I’ve never been a fan of kickers having your team’s fate in their leg but since the league requires your offense to go out there to go get a one, two, or three point conversion after a touchdown, it eradicates the kickers presence and I’m all here for it. The 4th and 15 rule may be the biggest game changer of all as even the NFL is looking in to adding this to the game as an alternative in the fourth quarter to a on-site kick if a team is losing, the Philadelphia Eagles are the team who has requested the NFL take a look at this rule. The Clock The last thing I’ll point out is that I truly enjoy is the time management of the league’s games. What makes the game interesting, it’s the last 2 minutes of each half It just seems to draw you in because it gives so many more opportunities to both teams that it’s must watch football. The 2 minutes is used the way it should be used, they are almost games separated from the game itself. Instead of sitting around for 3 or 3.5 hours the games can be over in most cases in under 3 hours and that’s refreshing and it leaves you wanting more especially if it’s not a snoozer. One of the biggest factors for that is incomplete passes do not stop the clock. Grade : 9.4 Ticketing & Fan Experience The prices for most tickets to the XFL games have been extremely reasonable for an individual ticket or even If you have a family or group you want to take with you. People have rightfully criticized and overly criticized some of the venues the XFL has chosen to host its games, but the fan experience seems to be extremely positive no matter which location it happens to be at, that’s a huge plus for a casual visitor to a city who wants to attend a game or the dedicated fan of his team. The public is leaving the game satisfied. Each team has a unique location and there’s no debating that whether it’s Cashman Field that gets overly criticized in Las Vegas which I honestly have no problem with, Audi filled in Washington DC that generates a wonderful environment in a very nice soccer stadium along with St Louis who hosts the BattleHawks in the Dome at America’s Center that just oozes old but the huge crowds breathe fresh air into it. Moreover, Choctaw stadium may be my favorite stadium above all of them as the look and presentation of it seems historical. One of the most positive things I’ve heard is that fans have enjoyed the access with the players a lot more than with other leagues in the past and they’ve appreciated the gratitude the players have displayed for them being invested in the league. Another component to the live fan experience is merchandise, I’ve heard mix reviews, A positive is that the XFL sells many things that aren’t even on the XFL website making the games more unique but a negative is they don’t have enough merchandise booths keeping fans away from watching the game as lines are too long. Grade : 9.1 Social Media I’m not sure what has happened to the social media people who are running this XFL 3.0 accounts, but they are not the social media expert set the XFL 2.0 were. They are barely even existent! The Rock and his partners have completely failed the social media aspect of this league, we live in a day and age where being seen is everything and you don’t see them anywhere, it’s a shame. Dwayne Johnson alone has 374 million followers on Instagram and 17 million followers on Twitter that’s not counting how many he has on Facebook, you would think the biggest movie star In the world would step up and even share XFL content, but he hasn’t. As of recently, The Rock and the XFL have FINALLY started sharing content from game highlights to XFL news, they have not been involved whatsoever with the social media aspect of this league and it’s appalling that their investment seems to only be monetary, as important and key as that is, it’s not enough. What happened to the locker room specials that we used to get post games? Why did the constant social media presence from XFL 2.0 disappear? What happened to the XFL’s social media? Grade : 2.0 Game Play I have been very happy with the way the game has improved week after week as we finish with week 8. Heading into the season you knew it was going to be a little rough as some of these players hadn’t touched a football in several years, the players needed to build chemistry to get better. Quarterbacks and receivers needed to develop a chemistry of dependency and urgency to make their game more efficient. Defense was always going to be strong early on as it’s a lot easier to adjust on that side of the ball than it is on the offensive. Quarterback play with the exception of probably the Arlington renegades and the San Antonio Brahmas has improved week by week at a very high level with quarterbacks like AJ McCarron, Jordan Ta’Amu and Ben Dinucci playing lights out every single game. For the first time ever we finally got to see what an overtime game looked like in the XFL, and we didn’t just get one but we got two special overtimes this week with two thrilling finishes, the league deserves a ton of credit for the implementation of this rule. The meshing between these quarterbacks and their receivers, offensive lines and their running backs, players and their coaches have improved dramatically barring injuries, but overall I believe the teams have accomplished that synergy. We are less than two weeks away from the end of the regular season of this league with one playoff game in each division and a championship game at the end. If week 8 has told us anything, It’s chemistry Is everything which can only mean we may have the greatest championship game in football history coming up right? You never know! Game Play : 8.7 Marketing The marketing for XFL 3.0 has been abysmal and is an absolute failure. I’m not sure if the new ownership believed simply because The Rock was the face of the league that was enough that would be enough for the league to do well, but it’s turned out it wasn’t. Whatever Dwayne Johnson and Danny Garcia and Redbird thought about marketing this league the way they’ve done it or the lack thereof is an absolute travesty to the game of football. I have previously stated the XFL needs Vince McMahon presence in this league because there is no doubt he is the greatest promoter I’ve ever seen in my life, it’s his true genius. The XFL leadership failed to negotiate enough games to be on broadcast television the way they did the first time (2.0) with Vince McMahon, which has truly hurt the XFL in growing their audience. Solely staying with ESPN has hurt the league as it isolates itself from a potential larger audience on other networks like NBC. The Rock isn’t even present in anything the league does besides making a cameo. It’s clear to me that Vince McMahon’s name alone carries more weight with the public from a marketing and sports events hosting perspective, he’s clearly on a higher level. Dwayne Johnson cannot market anything but himself and that’s a detriment to this league and why Vince McMahon needs to come back in the fold somehow and push this league in the correct direction. Could you imagine what the attendance would be like if they actually marketed correctly in those markets? Many of the fans I’ve spoken with had no idea the teams were returning for another shot in the same market from XFL 2.0 where there was an already established fan-base. It’s insane! Dwayne Johnson IS not Jerry Jones, he’s not Mark Cuban, he’s not Magic Johnson or Jeanie Buss who actively promote and push their organization. My NFL GRIPE XFL First and foremost I want to congratulate Taylor Heinicke on signing a two year deal with the Atlanta Falcons for up to $20 million! Washington Commanders Buried Taylor Heinicke Washington made a mistake by not keeping this man. He should have been their starting quarterback for the past 2 years, but for some reason he never got the respect he deserved from the Washington Commanders. I say that because there’s no way in hell anyone with subpar vision would ever think that Carson Wentz was ever any good as a quarterback, much less better than Heinicke. Did you see the season he had with the Indianapolis Colts? Horrible. But for some reason Wentz got the starting job over the consummate professional Heinicke, who has never complained when he should have, who was always grateful to be there, and most importantly was always ready when called upon. Unlike Wentz or his predecessor Ryan Fitzpatrick I don’t remember the last time Heinicke ever got hurt. I’ve seen people complain about Taylor, saying he’s not any good, he’s not the answer, he’s always going to be a backup, but yet as a starting backup quarterback for the Washington Commanders he has a winning record with 32 touchdowns with 21 interceptions. He went 12-11-1 as a starter for Washington, that’s not counting the games he came in as a backup when their starting quarterback got injured. Considering their horrendous offensive line, terrible play calling by former offensive coordinator Scott Turner, and their clueless head coach Ron Rivera, he did pretty damn good. Rivera who in my opinion cost his team the playoffs by making a stupid decision to start Wentz over Heinicke against the Cleveland Browns who ended up eliminating them from the playoffs, then Rivera being clueless claiming he had no idea they would’ve been eliminated. This says it all. Is Heinicke the starting quarterback for the 2023 season? There’s been conflicting stories that I’ve seen, but Heinicke himself today has finally confirmed that he is not there to start but solely backup Desmond Ridder. I’m not sure where this decision is coming from to start Ridder over Heinicke, whether it’s from the head coach, the GM or the owner himself, but they have have to give both of them the same amount of reps to actually compete fairly for the job. I question this decision, Atlanta has never been high on Ridder regardless of the draft pick he was, nothing that he did towards the end of the season impressed anyone. As a quarterback guy I always look for a gleam in a young drafted quarterback and I truly did not see one, that’s not saying that he isn’t going be great, but my eye test says for now, says this is bad decision. Atlanta has invested most of their money in the defensive line and offensive line, this would be a perfect test to see how good Taylor Heinicke truly is as a starter, everything is there for him to be successful and if he isn’t then you start the rookie quarterback. To even evaluate these two men correctly, the Falcons best bet is to have the quarterbacks compete for the starting position to determine who can win their team the most games. Let’s hope the people in charge in Atlanta are smart enough to choose wisely between Ridder or Heinicke. They need that person to lead, to win your team games and to play hard for that leader. This decision can make or break a team as I believe it was doing in Washington, the players did not like Carson Wentz, and they appeared for the past two seasons to truly love and play harder for Taylor Heinicke. Decisions like these have happened for decades, and it impacts team morale and fan commitment. My NFL GRIPE One of my biggest pet peeves in the NFL is how teams never give the backup quarterbacks enough reps just in case for an emergency, it’s a detriment to the team and it’s a detriment to the quarterback play as a whole. Just look at last season! Numerous quarterbacks went down from Jimmy Garoppolo, to Brock Purdy, Jalen Hurts, Lamar Jackson, Kyler Murray, Matthew Stafford, Dak Prescott, Zack Wilson and many more. I don’t care about the quarterback’s ego, you play to win the game, not stroke the ego of a star player. They put these backup quarterbacks in positions that are immediately counterproductive. I’m not saying he’s perfect, he’s a gunslinger, but gunslingers are going to throw interceptions no matter who they are. The man can definitely launch the ball down the field, because of that his teams are always going to have a chance to win the game because he’s mobile, he can launch the ball and he’s very elusive for his size. His favorite quarterback growing up was Brett Favre and he truly reminds me of him, regardless of what you think about Favre nowadays. He plays backyard football mirroring Favre and Mahomes with everything on the line as if every down is a 4th and goal. That’s what I see. If the Atlanta Falcons were smart they would just start the 30-year-old quarterback this season over Desmond Ridder and not do the automatic placement or the job competition. Ridder would benefit being Heinicke’s protege, as we’ve seen it’s very important for young quarterbacks to learn from veterans. We saw this in San Francisco with Alex Smith and Colin Kaepernick and then again with Alex Smith in Kansas City with Patrick Mahomes. XFL You’re probably wondering why I mentioned the XFL in the title, it’s because Taylor Heinicke is a product of the XFL, and he always will be. Heinicke was a backup to current DC Defenders starting quarterback Jordan Ta’Amu In St. Louis for the BattleHawks in 2020. To those that criticize this league if Taylor heinecke started the season, made the playoffs, outperformed expectations and had a good run in the playoffs it would cement the necessity to the broader public that XFL league is more important than they believe it to be. Taylor Heinicke Is a quarterback who came from the XFL and has defeated many of the biggest names in the sport from Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Jalen Hurts to name just a few. But it wasn’t just Taylor, PJ Walker, the officia/unofficial MVP and stand-out quarterback of the league in 2020 from the XFL’s Houston Roughnecks also defeated Tom Brady, as he started for the Carolina Panthers several games in the 2022 season. To owners, GMs and coaches alike your future may be with a balance of XFL quarterbacks and college quarterbacks. Regardless of what the traditionalists of the game say, they have prevented the league from going forward by being overly protective, this league is a good thing for the future of the game. I was a fan of the XFL the first time around because of what it could represent, something innovative, something fresh, something different while executing great play on the field, but the product didn’t have any good quality to match that promise. In recent years I’ve been a fan of both iterations of spring leagues whether it was the XFL 2.0 or the USFL because they matched in promise and play in my opinion, the quality was substantially better for the former especially compared to the first redition of the league. That’s what these leagues are all about, they’re providing opportunities to people who may not have had any due to illness, injury, didn’t have the correct mindset or skillset or simply overlooked. Timing is everything and making up for a bad break can mean everything to someone who capitalizes on it. The XFL has hired the right people to make these players better, whether it’s with skills or mindset, one of the things they’ve also done to give an advantage to these players is hiring the coaches that they have. These coaches are actually former players themselves in most cases, they can relate to these individuals (players) a lot better in my opinion because experience no matter which obstacles in life we face is always going to be the best teacher. Americans are territorial, and we want to protect the idea of what we believe football is. This is why when teams go 0-16 or now 0-17, the stadiums are still full for the most part, because we’re going to be loyal and true to who we support. As Americans what’s one thing we love? An underdog! A second chance! The XFL 2.0 proved there was an appetite for football beyond the NFL, allowing other renditions of spring football to be consumed easier by fans making them comfortable with the idea that spring football is a good thing. Say what you will about Vince McMahon but the man in my opinion is a genius and he deserves a lot of credit for investing so much money and energy for the first and second renditions of this football league. So much of the operation was already in place to be successful because of McMahon, now Danny Garcia and Dwayne Johnson have to capitalize on that. Here’s hoping the XFL 3.0 which starts today can deliver and sustain that promise and quality of good football and provide all players with a greater opportunity in the NFL. Ron Rivera Rivera cost the Washington Commanders it’s football season. I’m not sure how or why any organization believes Carson Wentz is still a good quarterback, he just isn’t it. For several years now the Commanders have had their quarterback on their roster and have ignored him, that quarterback is Taylor Heinicke. Heinicke has consistently played well with the exception of a few bad throws but none egregiously bad as many others quarterbacks in the league. There’s no doubt he’s the consummate professional, he doesn’t complain, nor cause a ruckus within the locker room or off the field for that matter. When he’s called upon It’s evident that the players on that offense play even better when he’s in the game. Heinicke oozes energy and confidence displaying that when he makes something out of nothing which seemed to happen a lot this past season. Taylor Heinicke put the Washington Commanders in control of their playoff hopes which dwindled as soon as Ron Rivera decided to bench Heinecke and start Carson Wentz in week 17 against the Cleveland Browns. They ended up losing to Cleveland 24-10 with Wentz at the healm. The offensive line completely collapsed and the last play of the game there was clear pass interference on the defense as Heinecke was throwing the ball into the end zone which was never called to tie the game. Washington got robbed. That being said, Ron Rivera’s cluelessness was on full display and somehow seemed oblivious to what was actually taking place towards the end of the season as he did not realize the hopes for the Washington Commanders playoff run came to an end after they lost to Cleveland. Rivera was taking questions from the media and didn’t even realize that that loss meant they were kicked out of the playoffs. How do you not know these things? Doesn’t every coach pay attention to where their team is supposed to be headed? How is this even possible? Instead of sticking with the hot hand of Heinecke even with his losses, he was still 10 times better than Carson Wentz ever was in any game of the season, he screwed Washington. Eric Bienemy Washington should have already fired Ron Rivera, but with the news of Kansas City’s offensive coordinator Eric Bienemy being hired by the Commanders it provides him breathing room. This will definitely be Rivera’s last season as the head coach especially if the offense somehow doesn’t take a step forward with Beinemy as the play caller on offense, gearing up the opportunity for Bienemy to shine and show the haters why they should have hired him 15 interviews ago as a head coach. Heinicke is a free agent this year, Carson Wentz will probably be let go after his performance last year and they may go with Sam Howell who was there third string quarterback last year. Howell started the final game of the season for the commanders defeating the Dallas Cowboys and all of their starters in week 18 26-6. Depending on who Bienemy trusts with the football more, Washington May want Heinicke back as a starter in week 1 which may cost them $15 million if he’s looking for a contract similar to what Mitchell Trubisky got in Pittsburgh. Here’s hoping everything works out as it should with Taylor Heinecke and Eric Bienemy, they have so much firepower on that offense with Dotson, McLaurin, and Robinson they can’t keep wasting it, but they will need to find outside help on that offensive line immediately if they want it to work.

Their star QB Jalon Daniels went down with an injury, so why are the Jayhawks still the best story in college football. KU represents the hopes and dreams for every school that is not a traditional power. Non-power schools will have good years and bad years, some will have extended time in both categories. Kansas shows that any team is a good hire away from becoming relevant again. Lance Leipold will get a ton of offers for turning around a seemingly helpless program and bringing them to national relevancy. The Jayhawks will face many challenges within the next few months, but with one more win, this season can be remembered forever No one knows how long Kansas will be able to maintain their new found success, but this year should be a reminder that things can change at any time. Kansas went from the laughing stock of the Big 12, to hosting ESPN’s College Gameday. Sports exist to break your heart, but sometimes you’re rewarded with a magical season. In this case, it’s nice to live in the moment and root for that one last win. Bowl games are meaningless to some, but to this Kansas Jayhawks team, it would be the cherry on top. A 13th game, which cements how far Kansas has come, in such a short amount of time.

The answer may be in what led the Seattle Seahawks to trade their former franchise Quarterback. Wilson was an MVP candidate in the first half of the 2020 season and he threw a career high 40 touchdowns. The Seahawks season ended in disappointment with Russell Wilson struggling the second half of the season, ending in a home playoff loss to an injured Los Angeles Rams team. Part of the issue with the Seahawks is that Russell Wilson and the Seattle coaching staff became frustrated with each other. Wilson’s ability to extend and generate big plays rivaled every other quarterback in the NFL. Russell Wilson never developed his short passing game, which is increasingly noticeable now that Russ has lost athleticism. [TS_Poll id=”1″] Wilson seemed to irk teammates, especially those there for Seattle’s back to back Super Bowl appearances. Wilson’s style of play at his peak, could be described as Mahomes or Rodgers like. The difference is that those QBs developed their short passing game. Wilson is learning how to play with new players, while trying to adapt his game to who he is now, not who he was. Wilson should improve as he gets healthy and becomes more familiar with the players on the Broncos. This leaves us with us with one question: Is the new version of Russell Wilson good enough? The answer to this question depends on whether a person thinks Russell Wilson can re-invent himself or not, adaptability is key. The main issue with Russell Wilson, aside from his decline in accuracy, is his inability to extend plays anymore, at least at the current time. Wilson looks noticeably slower and has looked hesitant in obvious scrambling situations, something that never was an issue in the past. Russell Wilson has struggled immensely in 2022 and currently has a problem with his throwing shoulder. Wilson is completing less than 60% of his passes, which would be the worst completion percentage in his career. Not to mention, Wilson’s Head Coach, Nathaniel Hackett, is inexperienced and it seems to be an additional problem for an inexperienced team, as they have frustration written all over their faces for the majority of this seasons games thus far whether they’re winning or losing. The Broncos do not have a first or second round pick in the 2023 draft and they just signed Russ to a 250 million dollar contract. Denver can’t get rid of Russell Wilson, until the 2026 offseason. The Denver Broncos need Wilson to reinvent himself immediately, if not they will have a “Russell Wilson” problem for the foreseeable future, and the backlash will be extreme especially by the home team fans.

MATT RHULE – CAROLINA PANTHERS Matt Rhule was hired to replace Ron Rivera in 2020. Rhule had a challenging start to his NFL coaching career, which began during the 2020 COVID season. Carolina’s first move under Rhule was to sign veteran Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Bridgewater only lasted one season with the Panthers before being traded. Sam Darnold and Baker Mayfield were acquired via trade, but neither has looked effective under Rhule. Carolina has had five different starting Quarterbacks since Matt Rhule became coach of the Carolina Panthers. Currently, Carolina is sitting at 1-2, which seems to put the franchise in prime position to start a massive rebuild next offseason. The Panthers may be a loss or two away from starting their rebuild early, which would require them to let go of Matt Rhule. FRANK REICH – INDIANAPOLIS COLTS The Indianapolis Colts need to acquire a young Quarterback! Since Andrew Luck retired, the Colts have chose to go with veteran QBs, such as Philip Rivers, Carson Wentz, and Matt Ryan. The Colts are 0-2 and it would appear they need to hit the reset button. Frank Reich is a good coach and he’d get another job immediately. This choice is admittedly a stretch, but after a second year where the Colts fail to hit expectations, it may be time for both parties to move on. Frank Reich’s first year as coach, he led his team to 10-6 and a playoff win. Quarterback is still a glaring need for the Colts, and the overall talent hasn’t noticeably improved. This isn’t all Reich’s fault, but if their 1-2 start is a sign of what’s to come for the rest of the season, it may be time for everyone to move on. Pressure is building and it shouldn’t be shocking if the Colts decide to make a clean break from their GM and coach by the end of the 2022 season. NATHANEIL HACKETT – DENVER BRONCOS Nathaniel Hackett is a rookie Head Coach, but his first two game have been disastrous. The job looks to big for Hackett, who is making critical mistakes that has already cost the Broncos a win. Denver traded two first and second round picks for Russell Wilson, which was supposed to get the Broncos back into the playoffs. Wilson has struggled mightily the first two games as he acclimates to his new team. The Broncos play in a division with Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert, they can’t afford to have their coach consistently put them at a disadvantage. Hackett may become a decent Head Coach one day, but if his struggles continue, the Broncos may look towards another option to maximize their time with Russell Wilson. The worst thing Denver can do is to lose games because their coach can’t get basic coaching decisions correct. This why the Broncos could choose to move on from Nathaniel Hackett, despite his limited sample size. Honorable Mentions: Mike McCarthy – Dallas Cowboys The Cowboys had a big win against the Bengals in week 2, but Dallas has lacked consistently with McCarthy in charge. McCarthy is probably going to get fired, unless the Cowboys can make a run in the playoffs. Arthur Smith – Atlanta Falcons Arthur Smith doesn’t look like an incompetent coach, but the job feels too big for him as of now. Smith’s press conferences come off as a bit too emotional, there’s is a fine line between coaching with emotion and complaining that the media thinks your bad team is bad. Lovie Smith – Houston Texans The Texans shouldn’t fire Lovie Smith, regardless of how bad they are this season. Houston fired David Culley following the 2021 season, after going 4-13. Culley wasn’t great, but he won 4 games with arguably the worst roster in the NFL. The Texans are 0-2-1, but have played two close games with Smith in charge. The Texans don’t seem to have a plan, so firing another coach doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility.

In 2021, Mahomes and the offense had to completely change their game-plan, it didn’t click like it should have in the biggest moments, at least in the latter half of that specific AFC Championship game. The Road to the Super Bowl… Chiefs OFFENSE Patrick Mahomes enters the 2022 season looking for redemption, especially after a rough second half in the AFC Championship game that included multiple bad sacks, miscommunications, three points, and a game ending interception. Gone were the deep passes, in was a short passing offense. The 2022 offseason ended up becoming a reset for the team as the Chiefs traded away star Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill to the Miami Dolphins, Tyreek Hill had the most receptions in his career, meanwhile Hill averaged the least YPC in 2021. “Tua is the most accurate QB I’ve played with” – Former Kansas City Chief and current Wide Receiver for the Miami Dolphins Tyreek Hill The Chiefs used the 2022 offseason to hit reset on their roster by adding youth and athleticism, Justin Reid, Trent McDuffie, and Bryan Cook were added to reinvigorate the secondary, while on the opposite side of the ball JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Skyy Moore make up the new set of pass catchers for Patrick Mahomes. The additions of JuJu and MVS provide the Chiefs with more size and production than receivers, such as Byron Pringle and Demarcus Robinson. Tight End Jody Fortson returns from injury as potential red zone option for the Chiefs. RB The biggest change on offense may be in the Running Back room. The additions of Isiah Pacheco and Ronald Jones, along with the return of Jerrick McKinnon, places Clyde Edwards-Helaire under a spotlight this season. The Chiefs have viable secondary options on every down that they didn’t have last year. Pacheco took preseason snaps with the first team. Pacheco, a 7th round pick out of Rutgers, ran a 4.37 in his 40 yard dash. Pacheco seems to have earned the confidence of the Chiefs offensive and special teams coaches. Isiah Pacheco is a name to watch as a strong start could lead to extended playing time for the rookie RB. Jerrick McKinnon looks to be third down RB, while Jones adds veteran experience and can play early downs. McKinnon has struggled with injuries, but his playoff run showed that he could be viable, if healthy. Ronald Jones seemed to have a rough preseason, but has shown the ability to be durable. Jones has been a capable, early down RB the last few years, which is important when considering the durability concerns of McKinnon and CEH. CEH needs a productive and healthy season to keep his starting position. It’s not hyperbole to say that injuries and a lack of production could lead to this being the last season of CEH in KC. TE Kansas City returns all four of their Tight Ends from 2021, with future Hall of Famer, Travis Kelce returning as the definitive number one option of Patrick Mahomes. Jody Fortson returns from an achilles injury that ended his 2021 season. Mahomes showed confidence in Fortson as a red zone target as the TE caught two TDs against Washington in the 2nd preseason game. Noah Gray enters his 2nd year with the team, as he seemed to gain the confidence of the coaching staff, towards the end of the 2021. The Chiefs favorite blocking TE, Blake Bell, enters the season on Injured Reserve, but could return at some point in 2022. Bell is recovering from hip surgery, following an injury in the preseason. OL Now, we reach the offensive line, the best starting unit on the team, other than QB. The offensive line returns all five starters, from the end of the season. Kansas City has the best in iterior of any offensive line with Trey Smith, Joe Thuney, and Creed Humphrey. Orlando Brown Jr. looks to be in great shape and could be set up for big payday, with a strong 2022. Andrew Wylie is th biggest question mark at Right Tackle, but showed that he was capable, towards the end of 2021. Lucas Niang starts the season PUP (physically unable to perform), which means he’ll miss at least the first 4 weeks of the season. Niang is recovering from a late 2021 knee injury. A secondary problem for the offensive line could be their depth. Nick Allegretti looks to be the only viable backup, at least to start the 2022 season. Geron Christian is most likely the next veteran option, who improved towards the end of preseason. The other two backups are Prince Tega Wanogho, who has had injury concerns, and rookie 5th round pick Darian Kinnard, who had struggles in the preseason. Patrick Mahomes is tasked with leading a new groups of players deep into the season. The Kansas City Chiefs offense will look different in 2022, but the changes they made were a necessity. The Chiefs had two elite playmakers with Kelce and Hill, but the other players were hit or miss. The Chiefs will have a less dangerous set of weapons, but could be exponentially more dynamic. Mahomes and an OL headed into its 2nd year together, will lead to a more efficient and better offense for 2022. The key to the offense is going to be patience. Most teams will probably play the Chiefs the same, despite not having Tyreek Hill. This will require the Chiefs to be efficient early in the season. If KC can be efficient, the big passing plays will come back because the Chiefs receiving core is more dynamic as a unit, than in had been in previous years. Chiefs DEFENSE Kansas City enters 2022 with a completely revamped secondary. The Chiefs signed Justin Reid to replace the departing Tyrann Mathieu. CB Brett Veach shocked everyone by trading up and drafting CB Trent McDuffie of Washington. McDuffie looks to be day one contributor as the third CB, behind L’Jarius Sneed and Rashad Fenton. Bryan Cook was drafted in the 2nd round to replace Dan Sorenson and most likely Juan Thornhill in 2023. Joshua Williams is an impressive 4th round CB from Fayetteville State. Williams had a strong camp, but struggled a bit, in the Chiefs final preseason game. Williams looks to be the next man up, if any injury to a CB were to occur. The next option is Jaylen Watson, a rookie CB from Washington State. Watson had a strong preseason and may have even surpassed Joshua Williams, if one were to watch the Chiefs preseason finale. Watson may have been a bubble player, but quickly showed enough that the Chiefs were willing to cut Deandre Baker and Lonnie Johnson, during the first cuts of preseason. LB The Linebackers are one of the most improved groups on the team. Nick Bolton and Willy Gay add speed and athleticism that the Chiefs have been missing, since prime Derrick Johnson. Bolton and Gay are line for more snaps, which should result in a more productive group. Kansas City drafted Leo Chenal in the 3rd round, a LB that is explosive as a run stopper and blitzer. Chenal may have a limited role to begin the season as looks to improve in pass coverage. Darius Harris and the possible elevation of Elijah Lee (due to the Blake Bell Injury), round out a solid and improved group. DL Lastly, we get to the Defensive Line. This group is pretty much the same as it has been the last couple years. The two biggest additions are rookie 1st round pick George Karlaftis and Carlos Dunlap. The team returns with veterans Chris Jones and Frank Clark, among others. The key to the Defensive Line is health, if they can stay healthy, the Chiefs pass rush can be good enough. History would tell us that Jones and Dunlap will provide the Chiefs will solid production as pass rushers. The key to the pass rush and possibly the entire season is Frank Clark and/or George Karlaftis. Kansas City needs one or both to be have a threatening pass rush and if they can get production from one or both, this defense a a chance to be as good or better than the defense in 2019. Analysis The Kansas City Chiefs have revamped their roster with younger, more athletic players. They will need to rely on their veterans to start the season, but if the rookies can improve through the course of the season, the Chiefs will once again be in contention to win a championship.

Division Winner: BUFFALO BILLS (13-4) The Buffalo Bills are the class of the AFC East! Buffalo enters the 2022 season after an overtime playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Josh Allen leads Buffalo into what seems to be a make or break season for the Bills, as they signed veteran Edge Rusher Von Miller, to help get them to the Super Bowl. Draft Kings has the Buffalo Bills as the AFC favorite to make and win Super Bowl 57. Winning the top seed is a must for the Bills, who have saw their season end in Kansas City, the last two seasons. An AFC Championship game in Buffalo could be the difference between another playoff loss or a Super Bowl appearance. The Bills have the best QB and defense in the AFC East. A division title is expected and the homefield advantage through the playoffs is the expectation. 2nd Place: MIAMI DOLPHINS (9-8) Miami made a splash in the offseason by trading for Tyreek Hill and they followed up the addition of Hill by signing Terron Armstead, to play Left Tackle. New Dolphins coach, Mike McDaniel, is tasked with helping Tua Tagovailoa take a step forward. Tua has struggled with injuries and inconsistency, since being drafted in 2020, a slow start would place immense pressure on Tagovailoa as Miami was reportedly trying to add Tom Brady in the offseason. The Dolphins will attempt to win immediately, despite uncertainty at Head Coach and Quarterback. The hectic offseason brought more talent to Miami, but the coaching changes and uncertainty at Quarterback make them far from a playoff lock. 3rd Place: NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (8-9) New England is the hardest team to project in the AFC East. Matt Patricia is the leading candidate to call plays for the Patriots in 2022. The other option is Joe Judge, somehow. Mac Jones looked serviceable at times in 2021, but never seemed to have the full trust of Bill Belichick. In the past, it would be foolish to bet against Belichick, but the Patriots look to be devoid of talent on offense. A young QB, new offensive coaches, and a lack of talent would seemingly spell trouble for the Patriots, but the pedigree of their coach would project that New England will be in the hunt for a wild card spot. Last Place: NEW YORK JETS (5-12) The New York Jets are another team that is difficult to figure out, but an injury to Zach Wilson may be a sign of bad things to come. The Jets added WR Garrett Wilson, TE CJ Uzomah, and TE Tyler Conklin, in hopes of giving Zach Wilson more viable receiving targets. Not to mention, a bounce back year from WR Corey Davis could provide the Jets with a viable passing game. On defense, the New York Jets added S Jordan Whitehead, CB Sauce Gardner, and DE Jermaine Johnson. Johnson, along with healthy Defensive Linemen Quinnen Williams and Carl Lawson, could give the Jets a solid pass rush. The New York Jets have a tough schedule , with three of their first four games against 2022 playoff teams ( W1 Ravens, W3 Bengals, W3 Steelers). The Jets season will be defined by the play of Zach Wilson. The Jets need Wilson to stay healthy and take a step forward. A bad year and New York is probably looking for another QB in the 2023 draft. A good year and the Jets could be a good offseason away from playoff contention. The pieces are there for the Jets to contend for a 6th or 7th seed, but the uncertainty at QB will be what holds them back. - [Caitlyn Jenner Slams NCAA For Not Protecting 'Women's Sports'](https://finflamsports.com/caitlyn-jenner-slams-ncaa-for-not-protecting-womens-sports/): Caitlyn Jenner, formerly Bruce Jenner, has once again come out defending the separation of women’s and men’s sports. The NCAA bylaws currently permit trans athletes to participate with their chosen gender as long as they have been off hormonal supplements for one year. The bylaws state that students “may not compete on a women’s team without changing it to a mixed team status until completing one year of testosterone suppression treatment,” according to the NCAA’s website. Jenner is an Olympic gold medalist and is considered by many one of the the greatest athletes in history. Caitlyn Jenner On Trans Sports Caitlyn Jenner appeared on Fox News yesterday discussing transgender swimmer Lia Thomas who has apparently been demolishing the competition while swimming for the University of Pennsylvania. Thomas swam for three years as a male student prior to transitioning and is on course to contend for multiple national championships as records continue to be shattered by the swimmer. We need to protect women’s sports. Caitlyn Jenner told “America Reports” co-host Sandra Smith “Obviously this is about Lia Thomas who has brought a lot of attention to this issue,” Jenner said. “First of all, I respect her decision to live her life authentically. 100 percent. But, that also comes with responsibility and some integrity. I don’t know why she’s doing this. For two reasons: 1. It’s not good for the trans community. We have a lot of issues in the trans community that are very difficult and very challenging. We have a suicide rate that’s nine times higher than the general public.” “[Lia Thomas] is also not good for women’s sports,” Jenner said. “It’s unfortunate that this is happening. I don’t know why she’s doing it. She knows when she’s swimming she’s beating the competition by two laps. She was born as a biological boy. She was raised as a biological boy. Her cardiovascular system is bigger. Her respiratory system is bigger. “Her hands are bigger. She can swim faster. That’s a known. All of this is woke world that we’re living in right now is not working. I feel sorry for the other athletes that are out there, especially at Penn or anyone she’s competing against, because in the woke world you have to say, ‘Oh my gosh, this is great.’ No it’s not.” My thoughts on if Lia Thomas Returned to Men’s Swimming I do agree with Jenner as I personally believe displaying ones individuality while showcasing their talents would have a stronger impact for the trans community if someone like Thomas defeated competition in the men’s category as Thomas is a biological male. However, I also understand that if Thomas did so, things Would more than likely become more complicated. Increased bullying and demonization of trans people would definitely be a deterrent, since Thomas is trans that pressure would no doubt increase the pressures on her to defeat an actual self identified and biological male. The pressures wouldn’t just build for Thomas, but they’d build for the competitors in men’s swimming as well if she did or had to switch back to men’s swimming. Understand the opposing male athletes would face criticisms, hazing and ragging from critics, friends, and I’m sure even some family if they did in fact lose to Thomas. I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase ‘men are pigs’, we are! Things could escalate for all parties as I previously stated due to shame, but factors like religious beliefs, media coverage and mental health could have severe impact on all involved. I don’t agree with her choice of lifestyle but it’s also none of my business, it’s not hurting me personally, and the critics of her or people like have to understand no matter what they say, doesn’t matter. The evil they spew with legitimate or false justifications of Christianity is irrelevant because they’re not God. Thomas has every right to live the life Thomas dictates that’s appropriate for her. But, there is zero doubt in my mind that it’s truly unfair and inappropriate for Thomas to not recognize her decisions, as Jenner mentioned, the integrity that comes with her decision to compete against females who are at a genetic disadvantage, as it disregards the female anatomy altogether, doesn’t it? It’s just wrong and cheating plain and simple. Not sure if irony is the proper term to label Thomas’s recent defeat as but she did lose to Iszac Henig, who is a woman becoming a man. Henig currently swims on Yale’s women’s team. According to Fox News, “the NCAA’s board of governors is expected to review the policy during a meeting this week and issue a statement at that time.”

There’s hundreds of stories about how brilliant McMahon is, the ruthlessness he has in business practices, his ability to be cutthroat, the mere machine he is day in and day out, but there aren’t many stories you hear about the man that make his armor appear to be “kinked”. Vince McMahon Recently former WWE writer Kazeem Famuyide gave a brief description of a story involving Vince McMahon’s affection for civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King. Vince McMahon has previously stated that his heroes were his father Vincent J. McMahon and Dr. Martin Luther King. Famuyide went on to give his description on Twitter of the special moment. Say what you want about McMahon but he certainly loves his country and believe it or not actually has a heart. It’s certainly shows to me that the tribute video and the man himself Martin Luther King truly means something to Vince McMahon. McMahon is one my heroes, he came from nothing, was raised in a trailer park, dirt poor, he was abused, nearly beaten to death by his stepdad, has been a failure in certain ventures of business outside of WWE, but has had the drive and the foresight to continue to grow the WWE amidst everything into what it has become today. Regardless of what you say about the current product, there is only one Vincent Kennedy McMahon and without him and the blood, sweat and tears of the performers the business of professional wrestling would not exist.

Pat Summitt Summitt became the head coach of the Lady Vols in 1974 at the age of 22, and represented the United States as a player in the 1976 Olympics, winning a silver medal, the first that recognized women’s basketball. Summitt was head coach of the U.S. Women’s National Team when it won Olympic gold in 1984. There was never any money appropriated for women’s sports at the collegiate level, Pat Summitt changed that. When there was no money for road trips they had to stay in the opponents gymnasium overnight and sleep, when the games weren’t being watched she was a force to be reckoned with to make sure that they ended up being nationally televised, when the men had bigger locker rooms she fought for the women’s side to have the same as the man and ended up getting a locker room just as big. You may think these things are trivial and don’t matter but when you go through the struggle, everything matters. When Pat started coaching (1974), there wasn’t any reason that any other school anywhere couldn’t have done what she did. She didn’t have any better resources than anybody else. She just worked harder and she was just better at it. She’s never looked back. The only person who’s been able to compete with her is (Connecticut’s) Geno Auriemma. In all this time, Pat has had only one serious competitor. I think that’s amazing. Bobby Knight on Pat Summitt In nearly 40 years of dominance, Pat Summitt’s accomplishments speak for themselves as when she retired she was the most winningest coach in Division 1 college basketball history in both men’s and women’s with 1,098 victories and 208 losses (.841). She became the first head coach to reach 1,000 victories in men’s and women’s college basketball history. She took Tennessee to 16 SEC regular season titles, 16 SEC tournament championships, 31 straight appearances in the NCAA tournament, 18 Final Four appearances, and 8 national championships titles. She was named SEC coach of the year 8 times, and NCAA coach of the year 7 times. She was so phenomenal that she had the honor of being named the “Naismith Coach of the Century” in 2000 for the 1900’s. The Sporting News named the 50 Greatest Coaches of All-Time, voting Pat Summitt as the 11th best of all-time and was the only woman on the list in 2009, now she’s 13 on the new list they did in 2016. She was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame on June 5, 1999, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on October 13, 2000, and the FIBA Hall of Fame on June 19, 2013. In 1997 Pat Summitt became first female coach to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated after taking her team to an undefeated season with a 39-0 record winning their sixth national championship. Pat Summitt announced her retirement in August 2012, because she was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimers in 2011at the age of 59, she died  in 2016 at the of 64. There will never ever be another Pat Summitt, and in my estimation she will forever be remembered as one of the greatest coaches in all sports.

Washington’s logo of an American Indian chief was designed by a Native American in 1971. Washington will, however, keep the burgundy and gold colors and it’s new team name and logo have been postponed due to trademark issues. Snyder acted because of Political Correctness & Didn’t Want To Lose Money! With the tragic death of George Floyd occurring and racial tensions soaring across this country, civil rights groups have really been gaining steam demanding respect and pushing sensitive issues to the forefront. Among them, demands have soared for Confederate statues to be removed and or forcibly torn down by protesters. This was inevitable! Could you imagine the pressure that may have been mounting on Dan Snyder just by the image of his team alone? If the NFL season happened even a month ago, could this have put heat and driven division amongst its fans or even endangered their safety at the games if they were wearing Washington’s jerseys? I didn’t even mention their players. It’s certainly possible and very likely. According to the New York Times, some of the team’s biggest sponsors, including FedEx, Nike, and Pepsi, received letters from investors who called on the companies to cut their ties with the team. On July 2, FedEx, which pays about $8 million a year to have its name on the team’s stadium in Landover, Md., told the Redskins in a letter that if the team did not change its name it would ask that its name be taken off the stadium at the end of the coming season. FedEx said in a statement Monday, “We appreciate the team’s decision to change its name and logo, and we look forward to the outcome of the next step in the process.”   FedEx has six years left on a 27-year, $205 million naming rights deal for the stadium, signed in 1999. FedEx founder, chairman and chief executive Frederick W. Smith owns a 10% share of the team, but he and other minority partners reportedly have been trying to sell their shares. Could Pressure Mount on the Chiefs to Rename? With all that being said could this mean a name change for the Kansas City Chiefs? Possibly! Not likely! No, the Chiefs and Redskins are not the same things. This amazing franchise has shown the willingness to listen and change. Indeed the franchise has done plenty of good to erase it’s history when first moving to Kansas City, MO. What drives this argument? If you’ve ever been to Arrowhead Stadium you’ll know there is no single place like it in sports, the atmosphere, the bbq, the crowd, the cleanliness the team, the loudness, the sea of red, the tomahawk chop….well that’s an issue for some. The did build a “drum deck” for their pregame ritual that encourages fans to interact with one another and commence a read of red tomahawk chop wave. While fans do indeed join in the tomahawk chop chant it’s never meant to be disrespectful it’s just apart of the game that is able to bring it’s fans to a stand and chant and chop in unison in celebratory fashion for their team. Maybe if it wasn’t called the “tomahawk chop” it wouldn’t be a problem, the native American connotation seems to bother people especially some people who are Native Americans. Perhaps the Kansas City slice has a better ring to it? If you’ve been to a game at Arrowhead you’ll find out real quick there is never any malicious intent behind it or meant to be for that matter. On top of this, the Chiefs just so happen to have a horse called Warpaint with fans among fans who do wear Native American headdresses. Unless the Chiefs get some sort of backlash for any of this by their sponsors in this current climate I don’t see money being an issue especially because they’re coming off an incredible streak of comebacks wins in the playoffs topping it off with a final comeback to win the Super Bowl with the best quarterback on the planet in Patrick Mahomes. Speaking of Patrick Mahomes he is the most must-see quarterback of this generation who hasn’t even hit his peak yet, but he just got paid over a half a billion dollars to play with Kansas City until 2031. It’s the first half a billion-dollar contract in sports history. Can you believe he was a baseball player who chose to play football but got paid baseball money, the irony?

McMahon ha promised $500 million to be invested into the XFL over the following three years but due to the coronavirus, it was revealed in his court filing he had already invested $200 million in the past few years of his own money. Rumors surfaced last week by the Athletic that McMahon filing chapter 11 bankruptcy months ago was part of a masterful plan. Even creditor’s believed there was a maniacal plan to buyback the XFL all along to avoid paying who he owed and wiping the XFL’s slate debt-free that was hit drastically due to the coronavirus. McMahon indeed filed for bankruptcy in April but called the buyback rumors in a court filing Tuesday “unsubstantiated” and “inflammatory.” McMahon claims he had reserved a legal right to buyback the league because he wanted to make sure he reserved the right to do so of his feelings we’re still the same. However, his mind is made up now, with the rumors pushing him away from the decision to do so. “I don’t know why that’s out there, making me out to be the bad guy, [that] I’m going to buy the XFL back for pennies on the dollar, basically,” McMahon said in the deposition. “That helped me move into the direction of, ‘I’m not going to be a bidder, not going to have anything to do with it.’ I do hope that someone will pay a lot of money for it, and I do hope that it will survive.” As a fan of the XFL then and now, this bankruptcy definitely leaves a sour taste in your mouth, especially Vince McMahon who is in my opinion one of the greatest entrepreneurs in American history. The lawyers for Mcmahon and alpha entertainment we’re certainly echoing the Chairman’s feelings in a statement later when they said, “Accordingly, all that the committee has managed to do is to chase away a potentially significant bidder for the debtor’s assets.” According to ESPN, The XFL has hired the Houlihan Lokey brokerage firm to handle the sale. Houlihan Lokey managing director William H. Hardie III said in a filing Tuesday that 20 potential purchasers have signed non-disclosure agreements to gain access to confidential company data. An additional six potential purchasers are in the process of signing similar agreements, according to the filing. XFL Buyers Want To Start League in 2021, 12-Week Tournament A possible return in the works for 2021. The Next XFL Owner Is? I bring this up because if you know wrestling, this has been an angle before. Vince was going to buy his competition in World Championship Wrestling, but on simulcast his son, Shane McMahon appeared on his competitor’s flagship program where he purchased WCW from underneath his father. Is this our of the realm of possibility? No! Why? Something very odd happened during its new inception of the XFL where I saw Shane everywhere at all sorts of games and he was more visible than then founder himself. Here’s hoping it stays in the McMahon family because it just wouldn’t sit right with me that Vince would take another huge loss so publically and allow somebody to flourish where he failed with such a great product. Vince is getting older and word is the person to take over the reins when he steps down is Shane as he has taken on more responsibilities on a day to day basis in the WWE. The league is good for players around the country who need a chance or another shot because of whatever reasons. Players want this thing to succeed and football fans want this thing to last. There’s one player (NFL) in this market and more players (XFL, AAF, etc., ) help elevate the sport in my opinion not dilute it. Or could this all be a swerve from McMahon to take the pressure off himself in the public eye? Here’s hoping it survives and thrives and Vince McMahon or a McMahon has something to do with it.
- [2020 NFL Mock Draft 2.0](https://finflamsports.com/2020-nfl-mock-draft-2-0/): We are less than one month from the 2020 NFL Draft. It’s time once again for FinFlam to take a shot at predicting the 1st 10 Selections in the 1st Round. Our Mock Draft 2.0 keeps in line with our Mock Draft 1.0, with the exception of one massive trade at pick 9, where a playoff team from 2019 drafts its QB of the Future. Overall, 3 projected selections are changed from our first mock draft with those being picks, 8, 9, and 10. Here is our NFL Mock Draft 2.0 Round 1 Pick 1: Cincinnati Bengals – Joe Burrow – QB, LSU No change from our Mock Draft 1.0 Joe Burrow is the obvious pick, he was the best QB in college football last year. Burrow’s year rivaled that of Cam Newton’s 2010-11 Heisman Year. Joe Burrow’s two years at LSU include an average to slightly above average year and a Heisman winning, dominant year. The jump Burrow took was massive and could be cause for concern. Tua Tagovailoa could be an option here, but I believe the Bengals will go with Joe Burrow based on his outstanding showing in 2019 and clean bill of health. Round 1 Pick 2: Washington Redskins – Chase Young – EDGE, Ohio State Washington should take Chase Young, but I don’t think it’s a slam dunk. The regime that drafted Dwayne Haskins is no longer in place and Tua has franchise QB potential. That being said, Chase Young is an instant impact player and helps Washington immediately. If Haskins struggles this year, Washington may very well end up in the same spot next year. Next year’s draft class will most likely contain Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence. The key to this pick will be the team’s belief (or lack thereof) in Dwayne Haskins or belief in Tua’s talent and health. Round 1 Pick 3: Miami Dolphins via Trade (Projection) with Detroit Lions – Tua Tagovailoa – QB, Alabama No change from our Mock Draft 1.0 There has been speculation that the Detroit Lions could keep their pick and select Tua Tagovailoa. My guess is that this is to drum up interest for a potential trade. Matthew Stafford’s contract will be hard to move, meaning Detroit would have to eat a ton of money to trade or cut Stafford. My initial prediction is that the Dolphins will use some of their assets to get the QB of their choice. Justin Herbert has been linked to the Dolphins, but if the medicals check out, I expect Tua to end up with Miami, even if they have use assets to get him. Round 1 Pick 4: New York Giants – Jeff Okudah – CB, Ohio State No change from our mock draft 1.0 Jeff Okudah is the best CB coming into this year’s draft. The expectation is that a team like Detroit will select Okudah due to the Lions trade of Darius Slay to the Eagles. Also, Isaiah Simmons makes all the sense in the world for the New York Giants. Simmons is the most versatile player in this year’s draft. I have the Giants going with Jeff Okudah mainly because of Joe Judge’s background. Judge comes from the Patriots, which built their defense around their DBs. Jeff Okudah could be the Stephon Gilmore of New York’s revamped defense. Round 1 Pick 5: Detroit Lions via Trade (Projection) with Miami Dolphins – Isaiah Simmons – S/LB, Clemson No change from our Mock Draft 1.0 It’s reasonable to think that Jeff Okudah will be high on the Detroit Lions’ wish-list, especially if a Darius Slay trade happens before the draft. With Okudah going off the board one pick before, I see the Lions going with Isaiah Simmons. His versatility will help improve Detroit’s pass and run defense, which will help turn around their defense faster. Round 1 Pick 6: Los Angeles Chargers – Jordan Love – QB, Utah State No change from our Mock Draft 1.0 This is my first shocker of the draft. Justin Herbert is considered a more developed prospect than Jordan Love. Herbert would make all the sense in the world for the Chargers as they move on from Philip Rivers. The biggest prediction I have for the 2020 draft is that Jordan Love is taken in the top 10. My gut feeling is that some team will see his pure talent and go up to get him. Love is a tough QB to judge as his talent and some of his tape is undeniable. His turnovers and decision making has been questioned, but I believe a good coaching staff can help eliminate some of those habits. A team will talk themselves into Jordan Love. The reasoning being that better coaching and better players will bring out his full potential. Round 1 Pick 7: Carolina Panthers – Derrick Brown – DL, Auburn No change from our Mock Draft 1.0 The Panthers could be a candidate to trade back, but with an aging defensive line, I think they go with Derrick Brown. Brown is considered the best interior defensive lineman this draft. Round 1 Pick 8: Arizona Cardinals – Javon Kinlaw – DL, South Carolina This is a change from CeeDee Lamb as the Cardinals have made a trade for DeAndre Hopkins. Trading for Hopkins gives the Cardinals a ton of flexibility with this pick, which can help them improve the 2019’s 32nd ranked defense. The Cardinals now decide to help their Interior Defensive Line by drafting Javon Kinlaw. Kinlaw immediately helps improve one of the league’s worst defenses.   Round 1 Pick 9: Green Bay Packers Via Trade (Projection) with Jacksonville Jaguars  – Justin Herbert – QB, Oregon The Packers have Aaron Rodgers under contract through 2024. Green Bay can’t move on Rodgers, until at least 2022. With that being said, the Green Bay Packers make the most stunning trade of the 1st Round and trade up for QB, Justin Herbert. The Jaguars’ future is up in the air with the expectation of an overhaul next offseason. The Jaguars make a trade with the Packers to get future assets for an expected new regime. Green Bay is in a difficult spot as Rodgers is 36 and had durability issues in recent years. The 1st time the Packers can move on from Rodgers is the 2022 offseason. My expectation is for the Packers to take a QB in the next 2 years. Next years’ QB draft Class is top heavy with both Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields expected to be taken in the Top 2 or 3 in 2021. In this event, history repeats itself and as Green Bay takes a QB years before they need one. Almost an exact replay of what happened with Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers in 2005. Justin Herbert has the classic look of a top QB and my belief is that Green Bay will bank on Herbert’s physical traits. Lastly, I believe Jordan Love could be an option if he is the QB still around at this point.  Round 1 Pick 10: Cleveland Browns – Mekhi Becton – OT, Louisville This is a change from our mock draft 1.0 as we had Jedrick Wills as the first offensive lineman being drafted. Mekhi Becton was a 3 year starter at Louisville, primarily at Left Tackle. Becton started 10 games at Right Tackle as Freshman. Becton would go on to start and play in 23 of Louisville’s next 24 games with 21 starts coming at Left Tackle.

These rankings will include the quarterbacks season statistical projections, team records, where their playoff runs will end and who will win the coveted NFL MVP Award. Here’s hoping the world and sports world resumes to normal activity soon. Which Quarterback Will Be MVP? Honorable Mentions: Phillip Rivers, Drew Brees, Tom Brady, Cam Newton. 5. Deshaun Watson Even with an idiotic coach in Bill O’Brien, the Texans have a stud in Deshaun Watson who has the talent and intelligence I believe can propel him and his team above everyone else in their division. However, if Watson leaves, which he might, and ends up with the New England Patriots I could see him going higher on this list. With most of the burden being on Deshaun, his numbers should go up even higher this year especially with the loss of Hopkins. Team Record: 12-4 Team Journey: Win Division, Win AFC Division Playoff, Lose in AFC Championship QB Stats: 35 TD’s, 10 INT’s, 4,336 Yards 4. Lamar Jackson Can he really duplicate last year’s 2019 MVP season? I hope so for the sake of the league, but can he stay healthy a full season doing it all over again? Doubtful! We’ve never seen someone to his caliber so athletic and so sporadic accomplish what he has in his young career being a massive threat on the run and his ability to change and win games consistently on his feet. If Jackson does work on his accuracy as a passer this offseason look for his numbers be up as a passer, not substantially, but above last year’s. Staying healthy will also help his case for MVP as he should be able to come close considering his legs will be the main game threat. Rushing numbers for the NFL MVP look to come close to last year’s on the ground but don’t expect that if his passing numbers go up. Being a legitimate double threat is key for Watson in his follow up season. Team Record: 11-5 Team Journey: Win Wildcard Berg, Win Wild Card Game, Lose in AFC Divisional Playoff QB Stats: 39 TD’s, 12 INT’s, 3,674 Passing Yards, 979 Rushing Yards 3. Kyler Murray If Russell Wilson and Patrick Mahomes had a baby it would be Kyler Murray. What all three have in common is they played baseball, tremendous arms, and abilities to make plays out of nowhere. With the addition of Hopkins to the Cardinals, I could see them adding at least 3 more wins Hopkins added, and give room for Fitzgerald to not be covered so hard. I see them surpassing the Los Angeles Rams and wouldn’t be surprised if three teams from this division make the playoffs similar to when the Chiefs, Broncos, and Chargers did a few years back. Kyler Murray is the future I still believe and he hasn’t even hit his prime yet. Look for this entire season to be completely flipped around. Team Record: 10-6 Team Journey: Wild Card Berth, Lose in Wild Card Game QB Stats: 38 TD’s, 7 INT’s, 4,683 Yards 2. Russell Wilson The most underrated and overlooked quarterback in the NFL will be a tough one to beat as he repeatedly carries His teams to the playoffs year after year. He was the man talked about with Lamar all last year even tied for touchdowns into late of the season. He still managed to get them to the playoffs with a bad offensive line, bad defense, above decent special teams and not really any good tight-ends or cheetah-like wide receivers. It reminds me of John Elway carrying those three super bowl teams on his shoulders on merely his ability not on team talent. But he and Pete Carroll have made that offense focus on what works and Wilson is a workhorse that grinds every second he’s out on that field. In my opinion, he should’ve won the MVP last year, but I’m not mad Jackson won at all, he deserved it. Look for this man to go even further than he did last year with better talent. They were in the race for their division even into late December, but look for them to run away with the division title this upcoming season. Team Record:13-3 Team Journey: Win Division, Win Divisional Playoff, Win NFC Championship, Lose in Super Bowl QB Stats: 45 TD’s, 4 INT’s, 4,654 Yards 1. Patrick Mahomes In the words of the Nature Boy Ric Flair, “To Be The Man, You Gotta Beat The Man.” Ladies and gentlemen, Patrick Mahomes is The Man! Barring injury nobody can outduel, outplay, outsling, outwin this man. No team has the weapons the Chiefs do. He went out last year due to injury and sat several games but when he did, Mahomes was ahead of everyone at that point and he would’ve won MVP regardless of Jackson’s or Wilson’s performances. So what did he do? He said take it! So he came back and went and won the Superbowl becoming the youngest man to ever win the NFL MVP & Superbowl MVP in history. - [WWE vs Coronavirus - The Showcase of the Immorals!](https://finflamsports.com/during-the-pandemic-wwe/): WWE is a company that rarely shuts its doors, for this company, “The Show Must Go On” is always the mantra they live by and is embedded in their minds. With most professional and collegiate sports shutting down and the UFC decreasing the number of events they are running, the pressure is on for the company to press on or bring production to a halt. Is it time for the WWE to take a break until it’s safe to run shows? Recently, WWE and ESPN struck a deal to air WrestleMania on Sundays, until WrestleMania 36 on April 4th and 5th. The first replay was WrestleMania 30, which included John Cena versus Bray Wyatt, the end of the Undertaker’s undefeated streak and Daniel Bryan winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. This replay drew just under 850,000 viewers and was the highest-rated show on ESPN last week. Should WWE look towards their older content to get them through the Pandemic? The odds are USA Network and FOX want new content for Raw and Smackdown respectively. Smackdown, however, has had 2 of its highest ratings over the last couple of weeks. Raw did one of its better ratings with a replay of this year’s Royal Rumble. Raw has the detriment of being 3 hours, which requires more content. It’s harder to fill 3 hours with just replays, while it’s a nice buffer on Smackdown. Showcase of the Immorals? This brings us to WrestleMania 36. WWE has taped WrestleMania, which is expected to air on April 4th and 5th. The show was taped without a crowd as the Corona-virus has stopped all large gatherings of people, at least in a sports/entertainment setting. This decision is controversial as this is WWE’s biggest show of the year. There have been calls to push WrestleMania back. Some believe this was the right call as we don’t know when life will return to normal. An issue with taping WrestleMania in these circumstances is that some of the talents are unavailable. Roman Reigns has taken himself out of WrestleMania for safety reasons, in the past Reigns has dealt with Leukemia, which leaves his immune system vulnerable. Now Dana Brooke, Rey Mysterio, and others have presumably been taken off the card for precautionary reasons. Daniel Bryan is expected to enter self-quarantine after WWE is done taping as he has an autoimmune disease. The WWE also has older talent on the show, such as Goldberg and the Undertaker. In my opinion, the WWE should have waited to have WrestleMania. WrestleMania is the WWE’s biggest show and would be worth the wait. Instead, the show is a shell of itself, with the show being split into 2 days. WWE is working with a limited roster and the risk is higher than the reward. It would be a shame for a wrestler to fall ill filming a show in-front of no one. People are craving content, especially sports-related, which has probably influenced the WWE’s decision to go forward with producing content. I do understand why people want new content, it’s a distraction from the real world and unknown future that awaits us. It’s hard to know when any of this will end and it’s unknown when people will be able to return to their normal lives en masse. This is why WWE should look towards its past for the time being. One of the critiques of WWE is that they live in the past too much. I believe one of the solutions should be to use their past to get them by. WWE has so much content that re-airing old PPVs, matches, and past WrestleMania’s can get them by. This would be a great way to promote the WWE Network, which is a great resource to pass the time, with most people stuck in-doors. WWE should actively look to sell the rights to old PPVs and their older wrestling content to reach out to both new and old fans. There is more than enough content to fill Raw and Smackdown with “best of” content. As of right now, everyone is uncharted waters and is trying to make the best of a difficult situation. - [2020 NFL Mock Draft 1.0](https://finflamsports.com/2020-nfl-mock-draft-1-0/): As the NFL heads towards a new year and the start of free agency, it’s time to start thinking about the draft. With that being said, here is Finflam Sports’ Top 10 Mock Draft 1.0 Round 1 Pick 1: Cincinnati Bengals – Joe Burrow – QB, LSU Joe Burrow is the obvious pick, he was the best QB in college football last year. Burrow’s year rivaled that of Cam Newton’s 2010-11 Heisman Year. Joe Burrow’s two years at LSU include an average to slightly above average year and a Heisman winning, dominate year. The jump Burrow took was massive and could be cause for concern. Tua Tagovailoa could be an option here, but I believe the Bengals will go with Joe Burrow based on his outstanding showing 2019 and clean bill of health. Round 1 Pick 2: Washington Redskins – Chase Young – EDGE, Ohio State Washington should take Chase Young, but I don’t think it’s a slam dunk. The regime that drafted Dwayne Haskins is no longer in place and Tua has franchise QB potential. That being said, Chase Young is instant impact player and helps Washington immediately. If Haskins struggles this year, Washington may very well end up in the same spot next year. Next years draft class will most likely contain Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence. The key to this pick will be the team’s belief (or lack thereof) in Dwayne Haskins or belief in Tua’s talent and health. Round 1 Pick 3: Miami Dolphins via Trade (Projection) with Detroit Lions – Tua Tagovailoa – QB, Alabama There has been speculation that the Detroit Lions could keep their pick and select Tua Tagovailoa. My guess is that this is to drum up interest for a potential trade. Matthew Stafford’s contract will hard to move, meaning the Detroit would have to eat a ton of money to trade or cut Stafford. My initial prediction is that the Dolphins will use some of their assets to get the QB of there choice. Justin Herbert has been linked to the Dolphins, but if the medicals check out, I expect Tua to end up with Miami, even if they have use some assets to get him. Round 1 Pick 4: New York Giants – Jeff Okudah – CB, Ohio State Jeff Okudah is the best CB coming into this year’s draft. The expectation is that a team like Detroit to select him, especially if the Lions trade Darius Slay. Also, Isaiah Simmons makes all the sense in the world for the New York Giants. Simmons is the most versatile player in this year’s draft. I have the Giants going with Jeff Okudah mainly because of Joe Judge’s background. Judge comes from the Patriots, which built there defense around their DBs. Jeff Okudah could be the Stephon Gilmore of the New York’s revamped defense. Round 1 Pick 5: Detroit Lions via Trade (Projection) with Miami Dolphins – Isaiah Simmons – S/LB, Clemson It’s reasonable to think that Jeff Okudah will be high on the Detroit Lions’ wish-list, especially if a Darius Slay trade happens before the draft. With Okudah going off the board one pick before, I see the Lions going with Isaiah Simmons. His versatility will help improve the Detroit’s pass and run defense, which will help turn around their defense faster. Round 1 Pick 6: Los Angeles Chargers – Jordan Love – QB, Utah State This is my first shocker of the draft. Justin Herbert is considered a more developed prospect than Jordan Love. Herbert would make all the sense in the world for the Chargers as they move on from Philip Rivers. The biggest prediction I have for the 2020 draft is that Jordan Love is taken in the top 10. My gut feeling is that some team will see his pure talent and go up to get him. Love is a tough QB to judge as his talent and some of his tape is undeniable. His turnovers and decision making has been questioned, but I believe a good coaching staff can help eliminate some of those habits. A team will talk themselves into Jordan Love. The reasoning being that better coaching and better players will bring out his full potential. Round 1 Pick 7: Carolina Panthers – Derrick Brown – DL, Auburn The Panthers could be a candidate to trade back, but with an aging defensive line, I think they go with Derrick Brown. Brown is considered the best interior defensive lineman this draft. Round 1 Pick 8: Arizona Cardinals – CeeDee Lamb – WR, Oklahoma The Cardinals need weapons for Kyler Murray and with CeeDee Lamb and Jerry Jeudy on the board, the Cardinals can solve that problem. I have the Cardinals going Lamb, but this pick could very easily be Jerry Jeudy. The deep depth of this draft class could allow the Cardinals to get a comparable WR to Jerry Jeudy in the late 1st or early 2nd round, perhaps a WR like Justin Jefferson of LSU. Round 1 Pick 9: Jacksonville Jaguars – Javon Kinlaw – DL, South Carolina Javon Kinlaw would provide interior depth to a team that could lose Marcell Dareus and Calais Campbell in free agency. The Jaguars are also a candidate to trade back to get more assets. The Jaguars could go offense, but with limitations at QB, they may view defensive additions as more impactful. Round 1 Pick 10: Cleveland Browns – Jedrick Wills – OT, Alabama The Browns will have a few options, but I believe they’ll go with Jedrick Wills. Wills was a three year starter at RT for Alabama, which could be viewed as an impediment. He’s considered the best and most fluid moving offensive lineman in this draft. It doesn’t happen a ton, but there have been enough cases of players moving to LT after being drafted, which shouldn’t discourage the Browns from drafting him.
- [NBC Waging War Against Vince McMahon & the XFL?](https://finflamsports.com/nbc-waging-war-against-vince-mcmahon-the-xfl/): If anybody has been watching the coverage over the past two years since WWE Chairman, and CEO Vince McMahon announced the relaunch of the XFL, you may have noticed one network that’s trashed the rebirth of the once failed league repeatedly. NBC is that network! Since the XFL’s premiere two weeks ago NBC Sports on-air talents have buried it. The premier peaked at around 4 million people on ABC and averaged around 3.5 million viewers over the remaining 3 games for the opening weekend. Week 2 ratings were expected to drop as they did, but they aren’t all that bad as we only have numbers provided by ABC, so far none from Fox Sports who featured a game on FS1 that was the best game of the season and another on FOX that was the home opener for the Seattle Dragons that drew 30,000 people. NBC Sports journalist and Pro Football Talk host Mike Florio has been at the helm of this organized tirade against the XFL. Sure people shouldn’t get their hopes up for a “new” spring football league giving the history of the XFL version 1.0 and all the other spring football leagues before it or since. However, killing its momentum with hateful rhetoric this early so soon already is a slap in the face to all those men wanting another shot at their dream to play professional football again and more than likely their last shot to try to make it to the NFL. Mike has made comments in the past few months where he’s come under fire insisting opposing players hurt Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes so they can win against him. Yesterday, Florio was playing the role of a victim as he pointed out that the “loyal army of XFL fans” are calling him out for his harsh unfair criticisms about the league, mockingly saying, “ I’m getting being paid by the NFL to say bad things about the XFL, no there’s plenty of bad things to say.” To be fair Florio has said that he went into week one “wanting to not like it”, but he did, however, he premised that statement saying they have no “obligation” to like it because they don’t have any contracts with the XFL, more on that later. Florio has consistently preached the narrative that stars like Manziel, Tebow, and Kaepernick need to be signed in the league. This take is completely regressive, especially considering that Manziel proved he isn’t worth signing after his stint with the CFL and AAFL. Regarding Tebow and Kaepernick, they haven’t played professional football in years, yet Colin was asking for $20 million just to play with no evidence of still being able to, he was benched for a reason, right? Meanwhile, Tim Tebow rejected offers saying he’s focusing on baseball with the Mets. The XFL has repeatedly been labeled a start-up league by its commissioner Oliver Luck. Chris Simms, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Phil Simms goes on to criticize the league, yet he says he’s never even watched any of the eight games that have been broadcasted. How can someone give their opinion on something that they’ve never even taken time out to pay attention to? Simms made an argument that the NFL has starters and star power which is why people watch it and that nobody wants to watch a bunch of rejects basically. Hey Chris what about the history of the NFL? Doesn’t the league have 100 years on the XFL? What about those loyal fan bases who haven’t won anything like the Cleveland Browns or the Detroit Lions? What’s your excuse there? Have you forgotten sports indoctrination has certainly played a role in whom we root for? Yes, you did! What this comes down to is bitterness about being left out to dry and not included in the talk of the town. Florio referenced that they don’t have any contracts with XFL and that seems to be an issue for them. They started that journey with Vince McMahon 19 years ago and lost nearly $100 million combined. There’s something here that was not resolved and it’s in play all these years later. This league is different and you can tell it is, they want to get it right, and they will. Vince doesn’t have all the answers, but with his bank account set to take up to a $500 million dent of his own personal investment within the next three years, look for The Boss to find a solution where it actually works and lasts. This will be Vinny Macs Swan Song and America is showing that we are ready for spring football.

Spring football of any type has struggled to find any footing, since the USFL. Week One of the XFL averaged 3 Million viewers. Interest will always be high in the first week, so Week Two is extremely important for the new XFL. Week Two of the XFL on ABC averaged 2.2 Million viewers, which is a drop off from Week One, but is expected for any new league. As of this writing the ratings for Week Two of the XFL on Fox have not been released. The biggest question is if the XFL can keep this audience. For example, the NBA on ABC & ESPN averaged 1.99 Million viewers for the entirety of the 2018-19 season. The NBA on TNT averaged 1.5 Million, it’s lowest since the 2007-08 season. This means that if they XFL can keep half of its premiere audience, the ratings would be on par or in some cases exceed ratings from the NBA. When it comes to Major League Baseball, the ratings struggled to hit 2.5 Million in the middle of the season. For example, last season it took until July 30 for ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball to hit 2.4 Million viewers. The game featured the Yankees and Red Sox. An argument against the XFL would be that half the games are on free tv (Local ABC & FOX Channels), but there is more to it than just that. The NBA and MLB have long seasons, which creates viewer fatigue during the season. In the NBA, the two best teams in the Western Conference play in Los Angeles and the best team in the Eastern Conference plays in Milwaukee. Unlike the NFL, the NBA is can’t rely on star players to draw viewers in for every game. Every game in football counts, which is what makes the NFL and College Football so popular. The College Football Playoff itself has been predictable as teams like Clemson, Alabama, and Oklahoma are in, just about every year. CFB and ESPN has done a masterful job of creating week to week urgency through the entire season. Even with its predictability the small turnover in the playoff keeps people invested year to year. The NBA and MLB don’t have the ability to manufacture urgency for their games, until the end of the season, when the games have more meaning. In the NBA’s case, it’s only 2 or 3 teams in each conference who are fighting for the playoffs. It’s rare that the lower seeded teams make any type of run in the playoffs or even win a game in their series. MLB’s playoffs can be more unpredictable, but the season is so long that the public’s interest isn’t there on a national scale, until the playoffs start. Wild Card teams in baseball have a better chance to make an ALCS or NCLS more than a 4 to 8 seed in the NBA’s playoffs. Some of this is because seeding doesn’t matter as much in Major League Baseball’s playoffs. All of this is to say, don’t count out the XFL. Football has the first and second most popular sports leagues in the United States, which are the NFL and CFB. Maybe it’s the physicality of football, perhaps it’s the urgency of only having one game a week, or some combination of both. Football’s short schedule makes every game feel important, which other sports can’t do with their games. This version of the XFL is presenting football differently and feels like a fresh product. The XFL will have a lot to overcome, but it has the potential to become the 3rd most watched sport in the country. The XFL will have to overcome the stigma of being a “minor league” and they will have to develop QBs to some extent to stay relevant, but it’s off to a promising start. The XFL may not work long-term, maybe it’s just a one and done league that influences the NFL to make a few rule changes. Maybe just maybe, the XFL will break through, where it’s predecessors couldn’t. Maybe this XFL can succeed where the original XFL couldn’t. If history has taught us anything, we should know to never discount football’s popularity in the United States. Is Cam Newton a better quarterback than Philip Rivers? Philip Rivers doesn’t get hurt, as his ability to maintain his health is something people shouldn’t turn their nose to as he’s started 224 consecutive games, second-most by an NFL quarterback (behind Brett Favre, 297). The Chargers have the 6th round draft pick and I don’t see them drafting someone who can’t give them stability in the pocket. Newton is only 30 years old, a former Heisman Trophy winner and an NFL MVP who actually appeared in a Super Bowl. With nine seasons under his belt, Newton has amassed 29,041 passing yards, 182 touchdowns, and 108 interceptions. On the ground, he has compiled 4,806 yards and 58 touchdowns on 934 carries Newton has been in the league since 2011 and has only started all 16 games 5 times through that tenure, while only one since his 2015 MVP season (99.4) has he elevated his passer rating above 90, and that was only last year(94.2) where they collapsed miserably. OutCome The Chargers will likely aim to strengthen their offensive line with that draft pick or defensive side of the ball on the linebacker end, so I can’t see them drafting a starting quarterback. If Chargers do strengthen that front line it’ll be better for Cam as he had a foot injury last year that sidelined him for almost the entire season. Or we could be completely shocked and they might start Tyrod Taylor or they could even go after Justin Herbert who I’ve heard is pretty mobile and a legit college quarterback heading into the draft from Oregon. Sounds possible right? I don’t see either one of these things happening. Cam will play for the Chargers. Just think with the Chargers moving into their new stadium (SoFi) it’ll generate great buzz to drive traffic to the stadium and hell who knows maybe he might feel at home in Hollyweird with his ridiculous attire/costumes. It’s a perfect fit.

Now that he’s a free agent for the first time in his career, where should he go? Rivers owns more than 30 franchise records and is No. 6 on the NFL’s all-time touchdowns list with 397, fourth all-time in 300-plus passing yard performances with 70, Rivers played all of his 16 seasons with the Chargers. This was the first time in 12 years he threw for under 25 touchdowns in a season. Philip Rivers’s best fit for his future over the next few years will be in Tampa as the starting quarterback for the Buccaneers, it also points that way as he recently bought a house in Florida last month. The starting quarterback situation in Tampa is still in limbo. Jameis’ off the field antics and previous history have not helped his case with the exception of this year really where the focus was actually on football itself, not him. James brings baggage whereas Rivers brings 9 kids. Now Rivers did throw slightly decent numbers with over 4,600 yards, 23 touchdowns and 20 interceptions mirroring Tampa’s starting quarterbacks touchdown to interception ratio. Jameis Winston threw for 5,000 yards and 33 touchdowns, he also threw for an insane amount of interceptions, 30 of them. Rivers’ swan song will be in Tampa as they have a tremendous receiving core as he’s really lacked that through his career. Tampa’s receiving core consists of Mike Evans and Chris Godwin who combined for an explosive and impressive 2,490 yards and 17 touchdowns. Bruce Arians gave Carson Palmer a shot to resurrect his career and I see him doing the same thing with Philip. He’s always had favorable words for the future Hall of Famer, yes I said that, and Rivers out of the big 3 of his draft class (Rothlisberger, Manning) is the only one remaining who hasn’t appeared or won a SuperBowl. Look for Philip to have a comeback season and taking these Buccaneers to the playoffs and even further if they sign Le’Veon Bell as running back as I see this happening. Bell’s future signing will help relieve pressure off of Rivers where he doesn’t feel the pressure as much.

Now if you put 1+1 together his tweet depicts what two colors? Grey and Black! What makes it even more interesting is that Brady was seen hanging out with Raiders owner Mark Davis during a recent MMA fight in Las Vegas where even President of the UFC Dana White said the rumors have “legs”. Derrick Carr who’s been with the Raiders since 2014 commented on the speculation. “I mean, there was a lot of quarterbacks at that fight,” Carr told ESPN’s Paul Gutierrez. “And there was a lot of football players at that fight that are free agents. And it’s like, every time, with my job, it’s always a story. No matter what. And knowing some people that were around, I even know what the conversation was [between Davis and Brady], and it’s like, ‘C’mon, man, when’s it going to end?'” However, speculation was running wild as false reports of Brady purchasing a house in las vegas amped up Raider’s speculation for the future Hall of Famer. Let’s be fair he also bought a home in Florida 2 months ago & has a home in Los Angeles, with a couple of houses in the Boston-New York area and one overseas. So one could say Tom’s either playing for the Dolphins, Buccaneers, Jags, or Jets, right? As a Chiefs fan, I think I’d still be wary of playing against Tom as opposed to Carr who has never been the same since his injury. It would also make it even more competitive as I think Brady will try and come back with a vengeance and make a run for another championship, that’s the obvious goal. Kansas City will still be that dominating team in AFC West and AFC Conference nonetheless. If you look at Carrs’ contract he’s going to make over $40 million in the next two seasons, so having Brady on your roster with a similar contract as Carrs’ for 2-3 years isn’t a bad idea. Then in his swan song, they can draft a QB to be groomed under him which would be beneficial for all parties. Now could you imagine all the free agents who’d like to catch passes from Brady while saving taxes? Think of how many tickets would sell in Vegas if the Raiders somehow signed Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski with a comeback, and OBJ? Las Vegas’ odds improved to 9-1 on Thursday, making the Raiders the third most likely landing spot for Brady behind the Chargers (4-1) and Patriots. Former NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky shares my sentiments, “I think he’s going to the Raiders,” Orlovsky said on ESPN. “Connect the dots. OK, dominant offensive line. Like, really good offensive line in Las Vegas, OK? Tyrell Williams, a good young receiver. (Darren) Waller, really good, young tight end. Josh Jacobs, they can run the football. They’ve got the 12th pick in the draft and everyone knows this is an incredibly deep wide receiver class. You can get another piece. This could be a really enticing opportunity for Tom Brady to go to Vegas and kickstart that organization and start his branding of himself. They’ve got a lot of pieces out there.” The black hole in Las Vegas just may be the house Tom Brady built. Jon Gruden has to win now otherwise his 7 years left will mean nothing when Mark Davis fires him because we all know the Davis family threshold for patience gets thin quick. Gruden is making a whopping $10 million a year so he really needs to make a really strong push for the playoffs and get far.

Petition to Change NBA Logo Kobe spent his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers which in my estimation that organization is equivalent to the Yankees in New York. Kobe died at a young age of 41 when he passed away on Sunday, his daughter was 13 years old. Kobe Bryant’s death hit the world like a figurative monsoon, it was a catastrophic globe of hurt, everybody mourned and we still are. I understand the sentiment of wanting to immortalize the man because in actuality Kobe is the greatest thing we have ever seen come close to the greatest sports figure ever, Michael Jordan, but you can’t do that because we are prisoners of this tragic moment. The change of the logo will never ever happen! They’ve used Jerry West since 1969 and the designer of the current NBA logo even said it was “derived” from him, but the NBA has never publically said it was ever Jerry West. Why? Money!!! I don’t like to do anything to call attention to myself, … when people say that, it’s just who I am, period. If they would want to change it, I wish they would. In many ways, I wish they would. Jerry West to ESPN on the NBA Logo Once they acknowledge it’s Jerry, who is also another Laker and the man who traded to get Kobe Bryant from high school, they’d have to pay him and back pay him. Just think Kobe’s worth has shot through the roof, the estate would take forever to probably figure it out with attorneys, etc., and the NBA says its logo represents everybody, not just one player. If the league is sincere in that sentiment, okay, but we all know it’s the financial-based. So there is no way that would happen but that logo has a history whether West likes it or not it’s historical, and as hard as it is, regardless of how beautiful the sentiments by the millions to change the logo in honoring Kobe, again we can’t be prisoners of this tragic moment. My Take There are other ways to honor him and I think as great as he was, honor Kobe with some sort of All-Star perennial trophy since he did win it a record-tying 4 times and was selected to the All-Star game 18 times. I think the NBA can put in place something even better with plenty of thought like naming the lakers court after Kobe. While altering a logo with someone who had a tremendous impact can honor him, however, what does it do the history of the rest of the people and those who play differently. What about Kareem, Jordan, Bird, Johnson, Chamberlain and the dozens of other greats? What does that do them? There are arguments being made about current players looking up to Kobe and they idolize him which in turn should be the reason we honor Kobe that way if that’s the case, who did Kobe idolize? Michael Jordan! He mimicked and copied everything Michael Jordan was and I did say he is the greatest thing we ever saw close to the G.O.A.T., so why not Jordan then if he is the standard to Kobe because as great as he was he wasn’t Michael. The NBA should not change the logo to Kobe the sentiment is beautiful but you can’t.

The MLB recently handed down punishment Houston, which led to the Astros firing their Manager and General Manager. The MLB is currently investigating cheating allegations against the Boston Red Sox. While the Houston Astros have already been punished, there is a belief that the Astros cheating scandal could deeper than what Major League Baseball investigated. Internet detectives believe that Astros players wore technology underneath their uniforms, such as buzzers, to tip off pitches to teammates. Like anything on the internet, take this with a grain of salt. If you are interested in these types of sports conspiracies, this a topic worth researching. Sports leagues (Specifically Major League Baseball) and fans have to ask themselves one question: Should professional sports teams found guilty of cheating be stripped of their championships? My immediate reaction is to this question is no. However, if it’s proved that Houston Astros players actively wore technology to cheat during the game, I think it’s an option to consider. If Major League Baseball were to take this step, it would send shockwaves throughout every sport. The NCAA are the kings of trying to make you forget about champions and players. (1980s SMU and Reggie Bush’s 2005 Heisman come to mind immediately) The most powerful deterrent to cheating would to strip a team of a championship. In college, it’s overwhelmingly done because a player took money or had an improper benefit. It rarely has to do with actual cheating on the field. Stripping a professional team of it’s championship and then awarding to the runner up would cause quite a commotion, but I think it would be the most effective punishment against cheating. The NCAA doesn’t re-award National Championships and Heisman Trophies, but imagine if they did. Instead of pretending the 2013 NCAA Tournament didn’t happen because the championship was vacated, imagine if the NCAA awarded that championship was awarded to the runner-up Michigan Wolverine. Pretending championships didn’t happen doesn’t work, rewriting history to re-award championship would and adds a sense of finality. Instead of googling the 2013 NCAA Tournament to find out that Louisville won tournament, only for there to be an asterisk or parenthesis saying the title was vacated, the answer would know be the Michigan Wolverines. In my opinion, this would only work in professional sports as the NCAA doesn’t have the wherewithal to do this. This would also should pettiness from a professional sports league, which we need more of. If the MLB really wants to stop cheating, taking away championships and re-awarding them is top-level petty. I do think pro-sports leagues should consider this option. Even if they never use it, the threat could deter teams from cheating. Leagues and sports fans have to ask themselves three questions when it comes to cheating: Are fines, suspensions, and loss of draft picks enough?/Does the punishment fit the crime? Did a majority of players, coaches, and front office actively participate or have knowledge of said cheating? Not all cheating scandals are the same, which means not all cheating cases should lead to a revocation of a championship. In some cases a simple fine or loss of draft picks can be enough. The final question sports fans must ask themselves is: Did this case of cheating affect the integrity of the league and championship? Like most things in sports, I don’t think there is a right or wrong answer. I do think this a topic that is interesting to think about when we see widespread, organizational cheating in a sport.
