The position of quarterback is undeniably the most important and scrutinized position in football. The Denver Broncos have a rich history of fantastic quarterbacks, and as a fan, it can be challenging to narrow down the best of the best. That’s why I’ve put together a list of the top three quarterbacks in Denver Broncos history and why I believe they deserve this honor.

The Denver Broncos

John Elway

It’s impossible to talk about Denver Broncos quarterbacks without mentioning John Elway. He spent his entire career with the Broncos, leading them to five Super Bowls and winning two of them.

Elway repeatedly made game-winning drives late in games, earning him the nickname “The Comeback Kid.” In total, he threw for over 51,000 yards and 300 touchdowns in his career. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004, and his number 7 was retired by the Broncos.

Young kids will never know how great this man was and how much he truly pissed off every single person he played against. He is and always will be the man, and to me is a top five quarterback of all time.

Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning may not have spent his entire career with the Broncos, but his impact on the franchise was undeniable. He won Super Bowl 50 with the team and set numerous records during his four-year tenure.

Manning threw for over 17,000 yards and 140 touchdowns in Denver, including his record-breaking 2013 season where he threw for 5,477 yards and 55 touchdowns. Manning was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2021 and is widely considered for some, one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.

Craig Morton

Craig Morton may not be a household name, but his impact on the Broncos can’t be ignored. He led the team to its first Super Bowl appearance, and although they lost, he threw for over 700 yards and four touchdowns in the postseason.

Morton played four seasons with the Broncos and threw for over 10,000 yards and 74 touchdowns during that time. This consistency at the quarterback position helped set the foundation for the Broncos’ future success.

Honorable Mention

While it’s impossible to include all of the fantastic quarterbacks the Broncos have had throughout their history, there are a few that deserve an honorable mention.

Gary Kubiak, played backup quarterback for the Broncos during his time as a player. He helped lead the team to three Super Bowls as a backup to Elway.

Jake Plummer also deserves a nod for his time with the team during the early 2000s. He led the Broncos to two playoff appearances and was known for his tenacity and clutch play.

In Conclusion

In conclusion, the Denver Broncos have had several fantastic quarterbacks throughout their history, but John Elway, Peyton Manning, and Craig Morton stand out as the top three.

Each quarterback had a significant impact on the team and helped take the Broncos to new heights. Whether you’re a lifelong fan or new to the Broncos, it’s essential to understand and appreciate the role these quarterbacks played in the team’s successes.
